How to Enjoy The Holiday Season Amongst Stress & Anxiety

From buying all the presents to preparing for the festivities, the holidays are often fraught with stress and anxiety. These feelings can also bring about depression, which can make you holiday less enjoyable. Here are five ways to beat the stress and anxiety so you can enjoy this holiday season.

1. Ask for Help

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed out during the holidays, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Get in touch with a friend, family member, or a therapist to help you effectively deal with your feelings.

2. Stick to a Budget

Some people tend to go overboard during the holidays and it’s important to remember that it’s not about money. Create and stick to a realistic budget for your holiday shopping to reduce some stress and anxiety. Try making homemade gifts instead of buying them or start a Secret Santa tradition with your family and friends.

3. Set Aside Differences

The holidays come with family and all the drama that goes with it. During the holidays, set aside your differences with family and friends in order to have a more enjoyable experience.

4. Keep Your Healthy Habits

It’s easy to get thrown off course during the holidays, but it’s crucial to your mental health to keep your healthy habits. Don’t overindulge on the holiday food and beverages because it only adds to your stress. Maintaining your physical activity and healthy eating during the holidays will help reduce your stress.

5. Say No

If you are unable to participate in an event or you can’t do something for someone, don’t agree to it. It’s okay to say no and you shouldn’t feel guilty about it. Don’t add to your stress and anxiety by making commitments that you can’t fulfill.

While the holidays are all about giving, it’s important to remember to not over-extend yourself. I hope you enjoy this holiday season!
